Lesson #1

Day one at AM 1220 KHTS was exciting and overwhelming, in the best way possible. I walked in anxious and not knowing what to expect. After spending the last 5 years working in a salon, walking into a different work environment was like entering a whole new world. Immediately everyone was super friendly, and extremely inviting. I first toured the station and got a general idea of how everything works. I then sat in with Chuck, the production manager, while he worked on Logs and he showed me how to set them up and make sure every hour is timed perfectly. He also gave me a brief lesson on how to create and compress commercials using Adobe Auditions. I then got to sit in on a few meetings with the owner Carl. I really enjoyed being able to see the more business side of the station. The best part of the day was sitting in with T, shes the DJ that comes on at 4. She showed me the general tasks of running the show and even let me do a live read. After only one day in the studio i'm feeling more comfortable and feel I have a better understanding of the radio industry. I know there is so much more to learn, and I'm exciting to see what my next lessons have in store.
