This lesson regarding commercials was a little easier for me. First of all, I'd done commercials and promos before so this wasn't a brand new experience for me. Secondly, I knew I would be reading and producing these commercials so I had wrote for me and for my strengths as opposed to just reading random copy that wasn't written for me. After I wrote my 5 commercials I recorded three takes per commercial. Gary came in and listened to them and we chose the best read to produce and add music to the background.
He also wanted me to get started reading news copy. He found some old news copies from the old news department and had me do a cold read for the news. The read was about 15 minutes and it was hard to get through! 15 Minutes is a long time to just keep reading, after about 10 minutes words start to look the same so you have to refocus.
There's a possibility that I may be able to get on the air reading the news soon. The timing is great since we are about to enter the news lessons.
