Hi there! As this is my first blog post it seems appropriate to introduce myself. My name is Nicholas and I love sound. From the emotional release of hearing a song that reminds one of a special time in life to the kinesthetic experience of listening to a locomotive rattle by on the tracks pounding out the rhythm of life, sound is what gets me out of bed in the morning and helps me through the day. Which is what brings me to RRF and the beginnings of a career in radio broadcasting.
Music has always been a passion of mine. I started playing piano (classically trained) at age 10 then moved onto woodwinds and a few brass instruments as I went through primary school. Being a "Rock-and-Roll" star never appealed to me though, as the why's and how's of music (and sound in general) have always been much more interesting. The first time I ran sound for a small theatrical production got me hooked on the technical side. Which kind of brings me to radio broadcasting. That plus, one of the first things almost everybody I meet asks is "do you do radio, because you absolutely have the voice for it."
So that's me, or a part of me. As these blog posts continue with the lessons I am sure that we will all learn more about who I am. One more thing, because music and sound are my lifeblood I intend to post links and images of the aural sensations I experience throughout my learning process.

This was my coffee album this morning. I discovered The Raveonettes via KXRY in Portland about six months ago and have since bought a number of their albums. The fuzzy, dreamy quality paired with heavy, bright guitar riffs and minimalist percussion was just what I needed waking somewhat bleary-eyed from working late the night prior.
