Nicholas Orlin Radio Connection

Adobe Wizard Posted on 2016-05-30 by Nicholas Orlin

Hello again and welcome back! I didn't realize it had been so long since my last blog post. What a busy couple weeks its been, from working full time at my day(night) job to working my way through this program, there has been little time to sit and reflect.

First, allow me to thank my mentor, Brian Huen, for taking the time to work with me. Last week he invited me into the studio to get a feel for what his job entails. At the time he was putting together a Memorial Day program for a station out of Los Angels. Working in Adobe Audition, Brian mixed voice overs, swipes, and commercials. It was fascinating to watch and I learned so much in the process. As evidence of this please listen to my Soundcloud tracks, the two oldest I produced in Adobe Audition in advance of my first meeting with Brian, the other tracks I produced after my first meeting. Not only did the production quality increase but I received a few good notes from Brian on the actual delivery of the copy.

In other news, at the suggestion of my student advisor, Elliot Campos, my friend and I have been working on putting together a podcast. We are still working on coming up with a unifying theme, but this is going to be a lot of fun for us and hopefully for our listeners as well. Whitney and I have a great report which is built on many years of friendship. Maybe it's because we are both loud or maybe it's because our subject matter is...unique , but we tend to attract listeners/eavesdroppers and occasionally contributors.

Finally, please allow me to say again that this is an exciting journey. Between learning new software, playing with recording and mixing, and the writing exercises. It feels like this thing might actually take off. Finally.
