SAINTS@VIKINGS:

  • Quick Recap:

    • Vikings jump out to 17-0 lead in the first half.

    • Saints shot themselves in the foot via penalties. Red zone penalties set up Viking scores. Saints - 7 penalties for 97 yards total.

    • Brees and Saints strike back in 2nd half.

      • Brees with 3 TD passes, all in the second half. Two to Michael Thomas.

    • Marcus Williams interception of Keenum sets Saints up for their second score.

    • Sean Payton loses both of his challenges and two timeouts in the fourth. Both on seemingly inconsequential plays.

    • A blocked punt sets Saints up near midfield.

    • Kamara TD catch gives Saints first lead of the game 21-20.

    • Keenum throws several balls up for grabs in the 4th. Thielen amazingly comes down with one in traffic. Another defensive penalty on the play puts Vikings in FG range. 23-21 Vikings.

      • We’re the Saints too conservative once getting into FG range?

      • How special is Stefon Diggs?

      • Are the Vikings the team of destiny?

  • What the hell was Marcus Williams doing? What was going through his head?

  • Can Williams bounce back from such a bonehead play? Is he on a Bill Buckner level of notoriety?

FALCONS@EAGLES:

  • Quick recap:

    • Ajayi fumbles on third play from scrimmage.

    • Taking advantage of short field, Falcons take an early 3-0 lead.

    • Eagles get the run game going, work the ball inside the 5-yard-line. Fumble for the third time in the half, second time on a hand-off. Foles recovers.

    • Blount pounds it in on 4th & Goal from the two. PAT missed. 6-3 PHI.

    • Eagles muff a punt, Falcons recover. Ball makes contact with three different Eagles before being recovered. Fourth ball coughed up by Philly in  one and a half quarters.

    • On a third and goal, Matt Ryan somehow avoids pressure and shot-puts over the defense and into the hands of Devonta Freeman for a TD. Falcons take 10-6 lead. All 10 points are off turnovers.

    • With about 20 seconds left in the first half, Foles fires one over the head of everybody but the safety. He comes up and knees it into the hands of Torrey Smith for a first down.

      • Did that play get Foles into a groove?

      • Foles connects on another pass to Jeffrey. 53 yard field goal with 0:01 left puts PHI within one, 10-9.

    • Foles rolls to close out the third. Throws for five first downs on the drive. Leads to go ahead FG. 12-10 PHI.

    • Eagles put another three insurance points on the board. Foles and Ajayi get it done for the Eagles.

      • Foles - 23/30 for 246 yards. 0 TD 0 INT. RPO!

      • Ajayi - 15 carries for 54 yards. 3 rec. 44 yards.

    • Falcons had first and goal with 1:19 remaining. They elect to throw it four times in a row. One was a weird underhanded toss to half back that gets juggled and miraculously falls harmlessly to the turf. On fourth down, Matt Ryan rolls out of the pocket and into the teeth of the Eagles defense. Ryan heaves it up to Jones who fell down on the play. Jones unable to come down with it. Eagles win 15-10.

  • Is Matt Ryan done?

    • 22-36 for 210 yards and 1 TD.

  • Who do you blame for the Falcons loss?

  • Who do you like in the NFC Championship game?

TITANS@PATRIOTS:

    • Has Mariota taken the step needed for the Titans to compete for a championship year in and year out? If not, will he ever?

  • Patriots defense: 8 sacks

JAGUARS@STEELERS:

  • JAX won Week 5 meeting 30-9

  • Quick recap:

    • JAX jumps out to a quick 21-0 lead, thanks to a Miles Jack INT of Roethlisberger and a turnover on downs by PITT. Jags score off both turnovers (all rushing TD’s)

    • Antonio Brown gets PITT on the board with a 23 yard TD reception. Bouye had it perfectly covered. Roethlisberger’s throw was more perfect.

    • Roethlisberger stripsacked, Telvin Smith with 50 yard scoop and score. 28-7 JAX.

    • On a 4th & 11, Roethlisberger finds M. Bryant deep for a 36 yard TD just before the half. 28-14 JAX.

    • Steelers get ball back to start the second half. Roethlisberger hits Bell from 19 yards out to pull within 7. 28-21 JAX.

    • PITT defense is able to come up with a couple of stops in the early stages of the second half. But the offense does not capitalise:

  1. PUNT

  2. After blocking a JAX punt and getting the ball at midfield, PITT offense can’t get a first down. Go for it on 4th & 1 and do not convert.

  • Bortles hooks up with Keenan Cole for 45 yards to PITT 3. Fournette takes care of the rest for his third rushing TD of the day. 35-21 JAX.

  • On another fourth down play, Roethlisberger throws another perfect ball on the run 45 yards downfield to Brown. 35-28 JAX.

  • JAX responds on their next drive. FB Tommy Bohanon is left uncovered and collects a 14 yard TD pass from Bortles. 42-28 JAX. That would have been the stop Big Ben needed.

  • Roethlisberger scrambles inside the 10, the turns after crossing the line of scrimmage and dumps a backwards pass to LeVeon Bell who takes it in for his second TD. 42-35 JAX.

  • With 2:18 left in the game, PITT opts for onside kick and does not get it. They had two timeouts remaining

    • Do you agree with their decision to onside kick?

  • Already in range, JAX ices the game with a 45 yard Lambo FG. 45-35 JAX

  • Roethlisberger finds paydirt on 4th down for the third time, hitting Smith-Schuster from 4 yards out in garbage time. 45-42 FINAL.

  • QB Comparison:

  • Pittsburgh safety Mike Mitchell spoke of getting a rematch with the Patriots, one in which the Steelers would exact revenge for a painfully close loss in Week 15. “We’re going to play [the Patriots] again,” Mitchell said. “We can play them in hell, we can play them in Haiti, we can play them in New England … We’re going to win.”

  • The parody between Pittsburgh and New England. Distraction vs. Professionalism.

TREY’S NASCAR NINETY

Trey gives us a minute and a half of high octane, pedal to the metal NASCAR analysis.

  • So Danica and Aaron Rodgers are dating and I ask Who the hell cares? Why is this news?

  • I also will cover NASCAR Camping World Truck team Thorsport and their decision to part ways with Toyota in 2018, which will probably lead to a rant about how NASCAR’s double-A affiliate so to speak has become a playground for Trust fund kids who’s Father’s own most of the Southeast.

  • With a sport that has lost a bulk of their stars from 2015-2018, NASCAR is in a spot they haven’t been in for a long time. What is next for a sport with a lot of rising talent and not a lot of Personality.
