Amanda Bosler Radio Connection

First night at mmr! Posted on 2014-01-30 by Amanda Bosler

For the past two months I made sure that every person I've come in contact with knew that I was starting this amazing apprenticeship at Wmmr! I've been so excited to finally start learning and experiencing something I've been interested in and passionate about for such a long time now. My friends knew exactly how excited I was a threw a "pumped up" dinner for me just before I left for my first day in the studio.

My mentor "rabi" is on air in the studio on Sunday nights from seven to midnight and he decided this would be the best time for me to come in and learn. I have to agree because I am a hands on learner and seeing him in action is exactly what I needed. When I fist got there I was immediately fascinated by the studio itself. There was so much art work so many pictures and so much music history on every wall. This made me excited to get started.

While the music was playing rabi started showing me the basics such as the system they use,the microphones, the music list and a bunch more. The Grammys happened to be on so we were watching them live and Rabi was giving commentary on them. Rabi noticed that  Paul McCartney was giving some type of speech and was able to quickly broadcast the speech from the television on live radio. He turns to me and says "that's live radio for ya!" I was thinking to myself, how awesome that all the listeners got to hear that speech in their cars or wherever just because it's what Rabi wanted to share with them.

Even though my first day was a little slow moving, I learned some fascinating things that most people could probably care less about. Like; did you know that you can't actually "request" a song. Every song for at least a few days is already selected and placed in the database by Rabi himself. I felt like a dork for not knowing that, but hey that's what it's all about right? I had a lot of fun and I look forward to returning this coming weekend!
