Lesson # 1

Today was my first real inside look at the Iheartmedia studio with Maleko. During the interview prior to being accepted into the Radio Connection program, Maleko also had showed me the stations including but todays tour was much more complex.  KSSK, KHVH, Total Traffic+Weather, Star 101.9 Hawaii's new music alternative, 93.9 the Jamz Hawaii's true old school, Evolution on 99.1 All Things Dance and Honolulu's second most popular station Island 98.5 are all operated by Iheartmedia Honolulu. I was able to visit both the offices, the on-air studio, the traffic room and have a first hand look at the Nex Gen operating system which is essential to the staions daily operations. Besides the great positive energy permiating around the station, Im very excited to be working with Maleko. He is the Digital Program Director as well as a on-air personality for star 101.9. He has a very calm and clear deminor while still being lighthearted which made it easy to communicate. He told me today he has been working at the radio station in Honolulu since 1997, his job requirements and how he could help me complete my resume correctly to help my professional career. He said "unlike others who apply at the radio for a job, im going to help you learn how to use the equipment, control and harness your voice so you will have experience which will help you land a job" which made me feel more confident about my future voice work under his leadership. Im excited to see how far I can prepell myself into the radio community of Honolulu. We reviewed the first lessons of the history of radio, broadcasting, call signs as well as key positions within the radio station.
